Finally finding time

Time flies.
I have been busy creating art.
Last 2 shows due Tuesday and Wednesday.
Then free until August.
Busy adding plants to the garden.
Making 5 Queen size bed quilts.
3  to go.
Hanging a show Wednesday.
The next 2 days I will be sewing like crazy.
Then my life will calm down.
I just need time to do them.

New Series

New Project.
Making something new out of something old.
I have been collecting old hand sewn quilts.
For the next year I will make a series of
quilts out of old. The hexes will turn into
a flower garden.

Claudia's Quilt

This is the beginning of Claudia's quilt.
Loving the fabrics.
Blocking out the color background.
Starting on the reflections.
Trees and more trees.
I am liking this one.
Must dye more water fabrics.
I am doing the finishing touches.
Still need to add some more shadows in the
background and darken the left side water.
Claudia and I will enter my quilt and her
photograph in 2 art show this summer.
She is an AWESOME photographer.

Old and precious

I want one of these in my flower bed.
Just love these old things
They are what I learned to drive in.
Stick shifts. A button on the floor.
Just awesome.

Claudia's Quilt

My first step is to select fabric,
I am lucky I found a lot of pre-fused fabric.
I will not have to spend time putting
Misty Fuse on the fabrics.
Perfect. A piece of fabric the perfect color
and ripples for the water.
A good start.
That top dark strip needs to be lighten.
Nothing a little wash of paint won't fix.
Two hours in and I already have a messy
work area. Typical for me. When I am done I will
fold and sort and put away neatly.
I paint with fabric. Loving it so far.
I  found some dark blue for the darkest
areas and light blue for accents.
Will continue as I find time.

Claudia's quilt

This week I start a new landscape quilt for
my friend Claudia.
I love the colors and reflections.
I have already sorted a full container of fabric
for this quilt. Fabric that is already fused
and ready to go.
I will post photos as I go.
I may have to make 2 one for me and one for
Claudia.

Midnight Riders

I sent my SAQA auction quilt off yesterday,
This one was fun to make.
The background fabric I hand painted.
The horses come from a commercial cotton.
Silk scrapes made up the rest
plus some beads and copper metallic thread.
I can almost hear them
Hoofs pounding across the mesa
in the dark of the night.
Spooked by a wolf or a wild cat maybe.

These two small art quilts are for the
Spotlight auction for the spring SAQA meeting.
This is just the first layer.
More to come tomorrow.
The 12 x 12 art quilt will be for the
SAQA funds raiser.
Hoping to finish all by the end of the month.

Winter around me

It has been a snowy month.
Beautiful outside.
The windmill in the field stands out against the sky
Shadows under the pines.
It snows a little every day this week.
Next week it will warm up to melt it.
We have at least 16 inches on the level.
Sometimes the snow show up in an art quilt.

New quilt done "CROWS"

My first finish for the year.
This quilt is a polka dot challenge,
for the Indiana Heritage quilt Show
in Bloomington, IN.
I find I like to do more abstract or pictorial quilts.
I am the featured artist at the show this year.
Should be exciting.
I am hoping that I will be able to create more
art this year. Age does slow us down.
