These two small art quilts are for the

Spotlight auction for the spring SAQA meeting.

This is just the first layer.

More to come tomorrow. 

The 12 x 12 art quilt will be for the 

SAQA funds raiser.

Hoping to finish all by the end of the month.

IMA Cutting-edge fashion

 We visited the fiber exhibit at the museum

after our luncheon meeting of the Indiana

SAQA group. I said I would show you some

of the fashions. I remember making a black silk

outfit in 1960 like the orange silk outfit

on the right. I always liked black and silk. 

 I thought the coat of cutouts was interesting.

 Some elegant fashions with bustiers.

 This vest caught my eye and made me think

of Jamie Fingel with the zippers.

 This  japaneese outfit got a chuckle out 

of all of us.

 Then there is the dinner jacket in black.

Tounge in cheek not the silver ware.

 This little floral dress was my favorite.

I remember lots of those floral prints in the 70's

This show featured works by Rudi Grenreich,

Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen,

Issey Miyake and Franco Moschino.

 This show curated by Niloo Paydar was

very interesting. She gave us a tour.

SAQA Auction Quilt

 Yesterday I finished 2 small quilts.

One of them is my donation for the SAQA auction.

Loved this fabric when I bought it.

I made a tote bag from some and have been

Snipping at it little by little.

I think I have a fat quarter left.

They look like quinia hens

 The other quilt is for my Chairs show in august.

Flowers and fences from a photo I took

in Douglas Michigan.

Love the views around Lake Michigan and

the Saugatuck / Douglas area.

Now I must concentrate on my prep for Chicago.

I have learned to start early.

Something always comes up.

SAQA Auction quilt

 I made this yesterday for the SAQA auction.

I love the fabric and would like to get more

of it. Does anyone know who makes this?

Love the color.

I have a show in August CHAIRS and I think this

would be great for a cushion on a wicker chair

sprayed the red color or Aqua.  Don't you?

Today I change out the art at the Farmhouse Restaurant

in Fair Oaks, Indiana. It is Abstracts this time.

BUSY week

I finished the week off with a SAQA Indiana group

meeting at Cathy Franks house. Lovely wooded setting

 for a really nice house and studio.

We shared some techniques, ate lunch and

 Cathy showed us her studio.

I have a feeling she busted her ---- cleaning everything.

Cathy is a very talented artist.

I will show you some of her pieces tomorrow.

 Thanks to Linda Eller for driving me to Indianapolis,

I really enjoyed the meeting

Cathy like all of us fiber artist has a nice collection of

fabric, books and threads.

 I could just visit for a week and read through her bookshelves.

So organized and neat, my things are spread all over

my house. Maybe some day I will be neat.

2014 SAQA Trunk show quilt.

Finally made a chart of deadlines for shows.

The first to get done was this little quilt for

SAQA. 7 inch by 10 inch. It was a fun project.

It is due by January 31.

Today I must first vacuum around my sewing

area just a little deep with scraps.

Today I will work on the background of the

5 paneled landscaped quilt. I am finally

get myself mentally ready  to do it.

I find getting started each year hard.

I seem to forget what I did the year before.

Plus the studio is a little messy and I like order.

Well have a great day I am off to the studio.

SAQA Studio Tour.

Saturday we had a great  time at my SAQA Studio open

house. We enjoyed a great lunch and spent 3 hours

sharing ideas and techniques. Everyone is so talented.

I think it would be fun to have a play date with

these artist and share even more. Everyone has

so much to offer. It was a delightful day I am

sharing lots of pics so you can see too.

 Barbara Triscari's quilt that recently appeared in

Quilting Arts along with an article.

 Joan Fulton's wind mill art quilt.

She has spent a lot of time in Africa and share

many of her experiences with us.

 Pat and Nan two great fabric artist.

Nan makes the most beautiful clothes and jewelry.

Pat just have an encaustic show open Friday night.

Pat has the beautiful white hair.

 Judy Ireland  showed us her great collage work.

She has many great experiences to share with the

quilt art world.

 

Nancy Elder's quilts from Sue Benners class. 

I was delighted to find another fiber artist that lives

close to me we will meet again.

 Barbara Triscari was published in the latest Quilting

Arts magazine. She is a very talented artist.

She uses lots of rust dyeing.

We had a great time and I hated to see it end.

Usually I get all uptight about hosting these things.

but this time it was all gals who share a common

thread so it was a no brainer. I was relaxed and

enjoyed my guests. They all had so much to share.
