Claudia's quilt

This week I start a new landscape quilt for
my friend Claudia.
I love the colors and reflections.
I have already sorted a full container of fabric
for this quilt. Fabric that is already fused
and ready to go.
I will post photos as I go.
I may have to make 2 one for me and one for
Claudia.

Reflections

Yesterday I worked on the reflections on panel 2.
I need to focus on the big quilt.
I find myself distracted by the lousy weather.
I have a pile of 3 small quilts I an working on
and also studying how herons are supposed to
look. I need to do 3 for the big quilt.
Than I am thinking of doing an entry for the IQS
show in Houston. A full table of work.
I just love the reflected area around this water lily.
I took the photo last summer.
I made a list of deadlines so if I have time I can
prepare and entry.
Well I am off early to the studio.
A good day to create more reflections.

Color in my back yard

Took a stroll around the back yard yesterday.
The colors are finally here and beautiful.
I think this is mt favorite time of the year.
I spent 4 hours in the studio yesterday.
Hopefully I will have some mini quilts to
send off to the Ohio Craft Museum for their
gift shop on Monday. I got my work for
the Holiday show ready to go for Monday.
I will put my stuff up Monday because I will
get injections in my knees on Tuesday.
Hopefully be Friday the show start the
steroids will have calmed down a little.
Have a nice week-end.

Lakeshore in the fall

Finished a 11 by 14 art quilt yesterday.
I also finished stitching the larger quilt.
I need to clip threads and stretch it on a
canvas and it is done. I how have 4 pieces
to take to the gallery in Sagatuck next week.
Wolf River, this one, sunset at cedar ridge
and the new 30 by 40 one. Should be a decent
representation. Need a title too.
Looking forward to a few days off.
Tonight is the opening of Indiana Now.
Looking to seeing all my friend in Lafayette.
Printed my coupons for Michael's and Joann's
Need a 30 x 40 stretched canvas. I prefer
to mount my art quilts on canvas.
so much easier to hang.so I am set.
Now to do some clipping of threads.

Over the river and through the woods.

Over the river and through the woods
to Grandma's house they will come on Tuesday.
Hopefully I will be ready.
I will double check everything today.
The menu, the stockings and the food.
The luxury of being done early.
I think I may go to the studio and play today.
Why wait until after Christmas.
With the weather we are supposed to have today
it will be good to stay home.
I had hot chocolate and bonquet for breakfast.
Bonquet is a dutch pasty made with almond paste
and a flaky buttery crust shaped into a tube.
Delicious.
First I must clean the kitchen it took a beating
yesterday. All the food packet are delivered or mailed.
Now just to straighten up and I will have
3 days to play.

Indiana roadside

 Love fall in Indiana.
the winding stream, the color of the trees.
The windmill standing tall against the fall sky.
Whats not to like.
Yesterday my grandson helped empty the flower pots
and put all the containers upside down under the big pine.
Another summer come and gone.
He is such a good helper.
Spending his fall break with granny.
Almost 8 hours of yard clean-up.
I sent him back to the university with a
big bag of groceries and a cooler bag of
homemade meals plus the left over
sloppy joes and homemade cherry pie,
and a hefty check for his college bills.
Wednesday I will have knee surgery so
maybe I will be off line for a couple of days.
Time will tell.
Today I will give the house one last cleaning
do the laundry and sit and read a book for awhile.
As ready as I can be.

A beautiful sunny day.

 Today is sunny and perfect.
Just a day to spend quietly at home.
With my husband.
Maybe later I will go out and shot some more photos,
read a book and just relax.
Have a good one.

Travels.

One of my customers wanted some photos  for
her new kitchen redecorating.
I browsed through my photos looking for candidates.
Like traveling memory lane.
Remembering the travels we took to Wisconsin and Michigan.
A river scene in northern Wisconsin.
The view outside my kitchen window.
The winding road to the cabin in the woods
we stayed in last September.
Life is good to us.
I hope we can find time to go somewhere this fall
My favorite time of the year.
I have officially closed the canning kitchen.
I am done.
I will be glad to get back to art.
I am having a sink installed in my furnace room
so I can play with the messy dyes and paints in there.
My goal is to have a play date the first week of October.
I have a couple of friends who have
questions on how to do things.
So we will play.

Central Park

My art quilt Central Park is going to be in the Salon Show.
I tried for 4 years to gain access to this show.
Finally got accepted.
Today my daughter and I will deliver it to the gallery today.
The opening is the 16th of September.
I love trees reflected in water.
Love the colors too.
Fabrics make a quilt.
Batiks and hand dyed fabric made this quilt special.

It will be nice to spend a day with my daughter.
We both have been too busy this summer.
Friday we take down the show
Under Indiana Skies in Lafayette..
We will bring it to the Lillian Fendig Gallery
in Rensselear for a month long celebration of the 40 years
anniversary of the Jasper County Art League and
20 years for Prairie Arts Council.
Jasper County is a very active county in the arts.
The show will run the month of October.
I will let you know when the opening is.
I will have 2 art quilts in the show.

Central Park

 Central Park finished.
6 hours of sewing and fusing.
5 hours of thread stitching to accent the quilt.
Ready to debut at the show in Lafayette.
Some close up of the details.
Trees reflected in the water.
Off to the hardware store this morning.
I am going to use the hanging method Jane Dunnewold
showed me last week.
Much neater that a sleeve.
Rigid strip of metal at the top with holes in each end.
Either use mono filament or nails to hang.
Attached with Velcro to quilt.
Easy to remove.
It is what this irregular top quilt needs.
Today I finish Northern Lights.

Woods and Bird houses.

We live in an enchanted place.
Surrounded by woods, trees, ponds and bird houses

We have over 20 bird houses plus the 2 apartment style
Martin houses. Our favorite spot after supper is the deck
by the small pond. This spring the weather wood cottage
bird house is home to a pair of blue birds . Each evening he brings her food.  Fat juicy bugs and worms. How nice to be taken care of.  Honey suckle vines curl around the trellis it is on making
it a busy place with humming birds darting in and out the vines looking for nectar. The Martin's make lots of noise as they are a community of birds. We have over 14 Purple Martins now. My husband's garden is almost full now just a few rows of corn to plant. So far there is cantaloupe, watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, corn and  asparagus. Lots of good things to share with friends and neighbors. Today is a day of appointment's.  A 8 am medical test at the hospital, A massage than a 5 pm hair cut. In between I will iron my clothes fir QSDS and finish packing. I will have Friday and Saturday to relax. Terry at QSDS let us know that there will be art students there to empty our cars and carry everything to our rooms and the sewing studios.  What a thoughtful thing. Now to cram 3 ladies clothes and sewing gear into my SUV. I told Anita I was going to eliminate some fabric she replied no leave home some clothes instead. Sounds like a plan.

Leaf me alone.

I have almost reached the finished stage.
I removed some of what I put on yesterday already.
Sometimes we add too much of a good thing.
My husband has a good eye and helps me at times.
The big blog of purple in the middle of the water needs to go.
He pointed that out for me.
If I would draw my designs out beforehand
maybe I would be better off.
But I am a impulsive type of person.
I hope to finish by Saturday.
Yesterday and last night were so windy that
the electric kept blinking on and off.
March is in like a Lion here in Indiana.
Sunday I invited the family for a rib fest
to celebrate the March birthdays.
With my homemade barbeque sauce,
YUM
