A New Week

My ponds have been inspirations for lots of art quilts.
I enjoy getting up each day and looking out to the
big pond to see who is around each day.
Some days it wood ducks. sometime its
Canadian geese.
There is always something going on.
Today I will finish cleaning my studio.
Then on to creating.

Pond lilies in abundance

Lost a couple of days getting injections in my knees.
Nice to be able to walk again.
The process is a bit painful glad o have it over.
I get my first knee replaced end of July.
Any advice out there about knee replacement?
Now I really need to get in gear.
The BIG quit needs to be done.
The next week will be quilting only.
That is why I do most of my work in January
through May I get busy and distracted by the
lovely weather and all the events going on in
the spring.
The Koi pond is on steroids.
7 blooms at once a new record.
All because we were too busy to clean the
bottom of all last years fish poo.
All that fertilizer means lots of lilies.

Mini Quilts

I blocked in 20 mini quilts so I have some to send
to the Ohio Craft Museum. They had sold most of
what I sent in September. But first I must finish
Dana's quilt. The series of mini quilts are from
photos taken on vacations in Sagatuck and Door
county. Two of my favorite places. I am going
to do a series of chair quilts. I loved the colorful
chairs I saw in Michigan and think they will make
nice art quilts.Than of course trees are always good.
Even though the seasons winding down the pond
still has a fading glory. Fall colors are special.
My husband told me we either have to close in the pond
or have a new liner put in next spring. I think I
would miss it too much so I vote for a new liner.
Well I am off to the Studio. Have a great day.

Water is so calming

I need to look at something peaceful.
My room is chaos hopefully by Saturday afternoon
it will be sorted out. I am just about ready to forget
packing and just buy new when we get there.
Wistfull thinking.
I am almost done.
Just have to hem 3 pairs of Levis for my son.
Find no more than 10 shirts to bring with
for me and get my computer and camera stuff
together and organized.
The first things I packed last week was my
art stuff. After all we must do the most important
things first. Clothing and etc comes last.
Last night is did frost but no damage.
Well this lady is tired and will continue
with the packing another time.

Spring is here

Spring has finally come to Indiana.
The wood ducks swim around the pond and
everything is starting to green up. I love the
early morning fog on the pond. Today the
window washer comes. It will be nice to see my
world through clean glass. They are so dirty from
the long winter. I need to get started on the 6
12x12 art quilts I need to make for an exchange.
Today will be a good day to start. I will stay
in the studio out of Luke's way. He does the
windows inside and out. What a luxury.
Well the day is starting with the bird song
outside my windows and it is time to get a move on.
Have a great day.

Finishing the details.

Yesterday I added beads to 5 mini quilts.
I am happy to be almost finished with these.

Wednesday I will look at my idea wall and pick
a new project. I like the wood pile or the fish theme,
but then there are birds. I would like to make up
several birds to add to quilts. I think the idea
wall gets my brain working and spurs ideas for
quilts. The studio is in order again and I am
ready for a new start. I hear there is a storm
coming either Thursday or Friday  it will be a
good time to hunker down and create.

On their way to Ohio.

Yesterday I sent my latest art quilts to the
Ohio Craft Museum. They are having a show in
February and March with some of the quilts
from the 17th Quilt Nationals. Tracey sent me
a request for 3 small art quilts for the gift shop.
I sent Pond Life and Frosty January Morning.
And September on Wolf River.
All are photos printed on silk and than
over stitched with variegated thread.
Than I worked on finishing a quilt I
started for Quilt Nationals but did not finish.
Health, my mothers last days and knee surgery
were more important. There will be another
chance for Quilt Nationals in 2014.
The colorful hand dyed fabrics in this quilt
will be perfect for In Harmony with Nature IV.
A joint show with 3 other artist in May/June.
Always something to do.

Pond times.

This is my quilt for the SAQA auction.
I love this quilt .
Looking at it again I might just bid for my own quilt.
Go to the SAQA.com site and see all the lovely quilts.
Bidding starts Monday the 10th.

I will be heading to Lafayette today to help take
down the Under Indiana Skies exhibit.
It will re appear in Rensselaer for the October show.
Art just gets around.
Another chance to share with our community
what the artist of Jasper and Newton county can do.

Frogs, Frogs, and more Frogs

The frogs in the pond have been a source of interest lately.
So far I think I have 6 frogs
They perch lightly on top of the lily pads.
Sun themselves on the rocks.
Hide under the pads.
Fun to watch in the morning while drinking my tea on the deck.
 The weather has been perfect.
Cool nights and blue skies during the day.
What a relief after the heat of this summer.
I must turn the frogs into a quilt some day.
I finished sprucing up my wet studio.
Lots more floor space open.
Now to get a plumber to install a sink and faucets.
Perfect  place to dye fabric.

Cool bath on a hot day.

What a hot day yesterday.
We sat down for lunch and looked out the window
we saw several sparrows taking a bath in the Koi pond.
What a refreshing idea.
Started picking out fabrics for my next art quilt
and could not find anything I liked for the back.
Got out the dyes and made 4  new over dyes,
in greens and blues.
Perfect for a water scene.
Now to get started.
Yesterday I added 805 to the backs of 7 yards of fabric.
I am ready to go this morning.
Love making water and tree scenes.
Have a great day everyone.

Dragonfly Dance II

One of my entries for Art Mix in Lafayette.
I like ponds and so do dragonflies.
They flit around in the summer from pond to pond.
Too fast to catch photos of them.
I carved a new stamp to add more color to the foreground.
Last week I made the wings out of Solvy, organza and netting.
The quilt is mounted on a stretched canvas making
it easier to hang in someones home.
Saturday morning will be spent picking up sticks
and branches in the yard with  my grand daughter.
We had a nice rain yesterday maybe 2 inches.
we needed it for the yard.
Have a great week-end.
