Winter approaches as December dawns

A December sunrise at Cedar Ridge. 

 

Sunrise and Sunset both are spectacular here at the ridge.

This is a busy time of the year.

As the year draws to an end I reflect on all that has gone by this year.

Looking forward to a New Year.

Colors of dawn

 I made this quilt card and it reminded me of a

painting I saw on my friend Kathy's site.

I love the colors of sunrise.

Life is so busy we need to take time to savor

the world around us.

That said I have a busy day ahead.

The holiday show is tonight but

first Brad is coming to clean up the yard

after the big blow last week.

All the corn shucks from the field are packed

around our house. What a mess.

I have a big list for him to so today.

Have a great day.

Ready Set and GO to Columbus today.

 I start my day here at Cedar Ridge and will end it at

QSDS 2012 in Columbus.

Where I will be for 7 days.

Looking forward to learning something new.

Most of my friends will be here at the Indiana Dunes.

Indiana has beautiful places to go.

And Live.

I left my husband lots of food.

Written instructions on the washer and dryer

and instructions to wash those dishes.

When we were first married I went to the hospital

to have our first child and came home to a

sink full of dirty and moldy dishes.

7 days worth.

I do not think he has ever washed dishes yet

in the 50 years we have been married.

Well I better get dressed and head to Lafayette to pick

up Pat and Anita.



Studio time.

 I started my planning for Under Indiana Skies.

These colors are luscious.

The subject of my first art quilt will be

this sunrise photograph taken out my kitchen window.

 The second  quilt will be the sunset  photograph

taken out on the deck looking west.

I started today by choosing my fabrics for the quilts.

I need some good blues yet I will pick those up this week.

Looking forward to creating something beautiful.

Back to the studio in the morning.

Wordless Wednesday

Saturday at the Street Market

Eight am and 38  degrees but its sunny.

The last street market in Chesterton for the year.

I buy a cup of warmth-hot chocolate.

I shop.

Huge cauliflower heads, brussel sprouts on the stem.

Large sweet onions.

Home made tamales for breakfast.

I stock up  on honey,dried fruit and grape jelly.

Bit of Swiss  bakery for crusty bread.

Now I know summer is over.

Holidays here we come.

Saturday's delight. The Robins journey.

Every year the Robins spend a week here at the Ridge.

They dine on the berries from the big Cedar tree.

Drink and bathe in the Koi pond by the house.

What a nice way to start the day.

Wordless Wednesday

A Sunny Monday morning.

I just love the first half hour before and the

first half hour after sunrise.

The colors glow especially with the

help of the foggy mist  from the

cooler night time temperatures.

                                 Fall is my favorite time of year. I am

                                 getting ready to spend 5 days in Brown

                                 County Indiana in a log cabin with 9

                                 other women creating art with pastels.

                                 Wednesday I deliver the centerpieces

                                  to the Bravo Arts Brunch and continue

                                  on to Brown County for 5 days. What a

                                 treat to make new friends and spend time

                                 in the hills of Brown County.

                    Sassafrass trees make the best color in the fall.
                                   Enjoy the days  it will soon be winter.

Sunday sunrise over the pond.

                Such a beautiful start to the day, I saw that
                the rain was starting to move in so I rushed
                to get some photos before the clouds moved
                in to obscure the sun. Enjoy a day of peace.
                Rainy days are great for curling up on the sofa.
                Listen to some music and read a good book.

Spiders, Fog and sunrise.

Saturday early I noticed the foggy mist

hanging on the spider webs.

A sure sign of the coming fall.

They were magical.

I just had to share.

   

Relax and have a peaceful Sunday.

A day of rest.

Summer is winding down.

The garden is glowing with yellow.

The color of the sun.

Summer is moving fast now.

The buzz of the tree locust

tells me in 6 weeks cooler weather will be here.

Soak up the heat while you can.

Today is a day to catch up at home.

Clean the kitchen.

Go to the library. Get groceries.

Enjoy the day.

This morning it is cool enough to

have the morning tea on the deck

and watch the sun rise.

Have a good one.

Knee high by the 4th of July.

Indiana knows corn.

Indiana grows good gardens.

I think we are at thigh high already.

The countryside looks so pretty in green. 

                         My husbands garden is lush in the heat of summer.
                         His 99 tomato plants will fill more than 100 jars.

                Five rows of potatoes.
                We will have lots of spuds for winter meals.
                We cook for shut ins.
                That is I cook-he delivers.

                            Sweet corn of different ages for the freezer.
                            Corn and scalloped potatoes is one of our
                            favorite meals to deliver to our friends.

 

                No Indiana summer would be complete without
                                             muskmelons.

                                 Than my favorite. Watermelon.
                                  End of August or  early September.
                                 As one of 6 kids we raised 45 acres
                                 of melons every summer. Weeded
                                 Picked and sold them to pay for our
                                  school tuition.
                                 Smart father also kept us very busy.

I rolled a slab then went outside for a Canadian Hemlock branch.

I love how the branch wraps around Eve at the waist.

No one would ever know I love the woods, trees, water and birds.

A new day in the sun.

Woke up to a sunny but (-4) cold day.

Had to take more snow pictures.

My son said this is like it was when he was little.

We don't have snows like this very often.

 I did get a little work done yesterday.
I need to get some painting done.
Got back to the red gesso background swamp scene.

 I first added the darks.

Finally it is time to add color.
Started with the light range of green.

Starting to look like something.
I will work on it Thursday.
