Autumn Hills

 I started to cut the trees for the next quilts.

I  use photographs to plan how the quilt will

progress. I will stitch the backgrounds and

than add the foreground. These 2 will have

orange and gold trees in them also.

I will finish yesterdays quilt with lots of hand

stitching than I will go on to the 2 new ones.

I should be able to finish all 3 with their backing

and hanging pockets by Friday. I plan to finish

the backing and pocket on Wolf River next week

also. Than I have to decide whether to take

time out to make some clay birds and fish

or do more quilting. I also could make a painting

to compliment one of my art quilts.

But first need to pay attention to the storm.

We will get anywhere form 3 to 7 inches.

Maybe another snow dyeing chance.

Pine trees

Morning in the winter.

A cup of hot tea and lazing around the house.

I notice I am getting better at being lazy.

After 33 years of 50 to 70 hour weeks it was

hard to slow down. I think it took me 3 years

to relax and go with the flow. Now I have to

prod myself into being productive.

Watching the play of the sun through the pines

and reading a James Patterson book instead of

sewing. Yesterday I did stitch some skies.

I am on a kick of making circular swirls in

my skies. Fun. Today I will go to Illinois to

play with the Midwest Collage Society.

They are a fun bunch of women and so

talented. I am all packed with supplies to

create and sandwich of chicken breast sauteed

in garlic olive oil. A veggie tray and a plate

of cookies. We will have demos  from 9 to 3

wit a lunch break. Enjoy you Sunday I will

definitely enjoy mine.



Texture in winter

 Winter lets us see the finer points of nature.

The bark of trees- the forest floor..

Texture all around us.

Today will be a studio day and a

day to hang some art quilts in the library.

It is fun to share art with fellow readers.

Love to get their reactions.

So far we haven't had much snow.

We are severely dry underground.

Hopefully the snows will come and

replenish the ground water.

Looking forward to another growing season.

We will place our seed order soon.

But first I need some serious studio time.

Under Indiana Skies

 Yesterday was spent hanging the new show in Lafayette.

These 3 art quilts were my contirbution.

Sunset, Sunrise and a fall scene.

 We had over 120 pieces of art.

 I really liked Claudia's fountain of large cement leaves.

She is a master of making these leaf forms that make good bird baths.

Everyone in the show produced very nice art.

Needless to say I was wore out.

Now to clean the studio and start on 3 new projects.

Hopefully they are winners.

Show opening tonight

Tonight is the Gallery Walk in Lafayette

My piece Central Park is in the show.

This is the reason I called Merill Comeau.

It does not hang well.

She shared with me that it is best to nail or pin

irregular pieces to the wall.

I had the misfortune to be place on the only

wall in the gallery that is plaster and we

cannot nail into that wall.

Another tip from Merill is magnets for hanging.

Nail magnet on wall and sew one on quilt than connect.

Busy day today

My notes to self hour by hour with only 

 the 1 to 1:30  slot open. May I will just sit quietly.

So if you are in the Lafayette, In area stop in

Wine , punch and snacks provided.

The views out my windows

 The views out my windows can inspire countless

art quilts. There is no end to the ideas I get from

my patch of earth. Living in the country with a

pump and well lets us keep everything fresh and green.

 The honeysuckle vines provide humming bird food.

 A quiet place to read the mail in the afternoon.

 Another honeysuckle vine I took from my parents home

10 years ago when my father passed.

What a sweet reminder of how much he loved flowers

 A love he passed on to me and I passed to my daughter.

I have shared lots of plants from my gardens.

In fact over 12 pick-up loads in 12 years.

They just keep growing.

Final Project

 My room mate was kind enough to share her photos

with me. The last day we posted our weeks work.

My favorite is the abstract quilt above.

My main project was the landscape quilt below.

I made 7 art quilts in 5 days.

If you ever have the opportunity take a class

with Cynthia Corbin.

She is taking the year off but will be back for

QSDS 2013.

I made the irregular edge quilt in 6 hours.

I got razzed a lot for sewing 100 MPH.

We are very tired but satisfied with what we learned.

The last day.

Good Morning.

Today we finish our final art quilt.

I have found that I  haven't changed my style

very much at all.

Most everyone seems to like my style.

So do I need to change.

we will see.

Nature continues to be my base.

Love my woods, water and birds.

Off to the studio.

I do miss my home studio.

More space to spread out.

Columbus QSDS 2012

Today we start our final piece for the week.

This photograph will be my inspiration.

I am learning a lot.

Mostly how much  do not know.



Planted a few trees.

 Added the trees to the quilt.

Stitched every branch down.

Now time to add the grass, leaves and a bird or two.

The colors are almost African or New Mexico like.

Needed some color in my quilt life.

Progress on the tree quilt

 I should finish this on Friday.

The Robins need to be stitched yet

and they need their legs.

It took 3 attempts to get the Robins to look right.

Tried printing on fabric-too dull.

Drew with Ink tense pencils and markers.

Too blah.

Finally made them with fabric,

Brighter and better.

Do you think it needs more Robins?

 The story behind this quilt.

One summer a whole flock of Robins landed

on a Sargent Crab tree to eat the fruit.

They covered the tree with

chattering moving spots of orange.

It was a delightfull sight.

I never forgot even though

it has been over 18 years ago.

This is my memory of that day.

Finally it is coming together.

 The Sky quilt is progressing.

but I need to decide which way it  will hang

as a tree or a branch.

Another of my favs.

 This one turned out so nice I gave it to my daughter

for a gift. That way I can visit it sometimes.

I liked the detail on the oak leaves.

I seem to like trees a lot.

The computer problems were a blessing in disguise.

It forced me to make a binder of my finished quilts

and art from my solo shows.

Now I need to put the patrons names on each photograph.

My grandson Andrew came over and updated my Mal ware.

Which found 10 different viruses to be wiped off

All clear now.

He really needs to fine a job in IT.

Thanks goodness for grandkids.
