Trees

 -Its that time again.
Cold nights and warm sunny days.
Took a ride to Michigan yesterday.
It was misty and cold but still nice.
Lake Michigan was boisterous.
The trees are starting to turn.
We had a great lunch at Swingbellies in Michigan City.
Got some apples in New Buffalo and
artisan bread in Chesterton.
Last stop was Beef Mart in Valparaiso for
some great meats and sausages.
I was tired but in a good way.
It is good to take time for friends.
We had a nice supper of cheese, sausage and breads.
Now for a quiet weekend at home.
Mainly because my front tire is flat.
It will be fixed Monday.
Have yourself a nice peaceful week end.

Old wood.

I was back in the archives again.
Love the weathered wood.
These are from 2008.
The top one is an old wagon in the field next door.
The next two are from old pilings on Ludington beach.
Sun and water makes wood weather fast.
Yesterday my newest great grand child came into
the world. David Edward  8 # 5 oz. 21 inches long.
Congratulations to Scott and Liz.
Ed and my daughter Kathy will have a little boy
to hold and enjoy and watch grow up.
The best pleasure in this world.

Fall 2006

I went on to an old storage device and found these
photos from 2006. It is amazing how time passes
so quickly. I love all these shots and could turn
them all into quilts.
The path to the back of the old airport.
I would follow it back but it is posted.
Must ask for permission this fall.
This oak tree on the fence line south of the pond
is now 8 foot taller.
Time does not stand still.
I love the mix of pines and oaks.
That's probably why I love our place to much.
Monday the yard crew came and trimmed all the dead
flowers off. We do this early so when the white
pine trees drop their needles they comer all the mess.
We start out in spring with a clean slate.
Each year, week, or day is a clean slate.
Spend your time wisely.
Time flies by so quickly.

Old Barns

 I love old barns.
I stop and take photos whenever I can.
These relics are fast disappearing.
I was glad I took time to photograph this one.
The next spring the farmer took it down.
Now it is preserved forever on my computer.
It may be time to make this into a quilt.
Another was to keep it.

Texture

The bark on the trees on our hill is interesting
So much texture.
Gnarly and peeling.
No two are the same.
It is so interesting what nature give us in the way
of visuals. Looking at the tree I wonder is it hurt
 when it was growing,
Nature is a wonderful thing.
In 2009 I did a series with watercolors and
branches and leaves.
I pressed the branches from the trees around the pond.
Chokecherry.
Than I created spontaneous watercolor to use with
them and framed them under glass.
Wish I would have kept this one.
It is amazing how it is hard to re-create something.
Works of art are always one of a kind.

Cedar Ridge

As you can see I don't have to leave home to get
inspired.  Trees everywhere.
Plenty of  privacy.
Wide open spaces.
We bought this hillside building site because of
the mature pine trees and oak trees.
25 acres of perfection.
Until its is time to do fall and spring clean up
Which is where we are now.
We do the simplest thing bet out the weed whacker.
Chop it all down and let the pine needles fall.
Today I am going to plan out the next 2 months projects.
I need 2 pieces for the Niches show in November,
Several small in Primary colors for January.
One piece for a show in the North east.
I had better get off this computer and get busy.

Autumn

My favorite time of the year.
Cool nights and warm days,
Plenty of sunshine.
Whats not to like.
Here at Cedar Ridge the sunsets are awesome.
Watching the sunset in the west from the deck
is our favorite time of the day.
Trees, wooded hillside and a couple of ponds makes
this an ideal place to live.
My son is having his last chemo treatment this Friday.
Than another week of radiation.
4 weeks of building some strength.
Than the big surgery.
Keep us and him in your thoughts and prayers.
